Below is a selection of the most recent 'Ask the Expert' questions and answers.

'Hi, I have just started trading and unsure about the prices CFD providers offer for the FTSE100 and Dow Jones index. Are these prices linked to the actual index or are they based on the futures market?'

Your question depends on what CFD provider you are using, the majority of brokers have two CFD index contracts the first will be based on the cash and the second should be a quarterly contract related to the underlying futures price. If your provider only offers one then it's usually priced as close to the cash market as possible but may have leanings towards the futures price as that's where the providers have to hedge to cover their positions. In conclusion it's worth keeping an eye on the actual underlying exchanges and most brokers can give you that level either online or by a quick phone call and by doing this you can see where the CFD prices are leaning.

'I'm interested in trading FX markets, do you know the best place to start? I'm also in need of education and a decent provider.'

Before getting involved in a new market its vital to do the maximum amount of research possible before getting involved. The internet nowadays has lots of free info for beginners including babypips.com. We are soon to be launching a new sister site called fxtradinginsider.com and will notify all visitors when it has gone live. When venturing into FX trading most educators will agree that it's always sensible to paper trade for as long as possible before staking any hard earned cash and even then it's prudent to start trading with very small amounts to limit your risk. We will not give any specific provider recommendations but we have quality brokers marketing through this site that I'm sure will give you assistance on your new venture. Good Luck!
